She is the inspiration, brains and beauty of their marriage and business.
OUR OBSESSION
It's a hard decision to ignore 95% of the market when beginning a business. This is exactly what we've done with YURU. By focusing only on the elderly, we are making a statement about how important they are. We're doing this for two important reasons:
We learn from them.
The oldest among us have the most experience. They've experienced and overcome trials and challenges and we can learn from them.
It's not good for our children and grandchildren to completely disconnect from their elders. Families that maintain close connection between generations are closer and stronger.
Their stories are interesting, fascinating and help children feel connected to something greater. This expanded perspective will strengthen future generations.
Their perspective, values and life lessons are infinitely valuable to everyone who follows them.
All of this cannot pass with them. This should be recorded and memorialized. YURU is here to help families do this in a beautiful way.
We cherish them.
The elderly in this country are often placed in facilities designed to support them. These facilities are important and necessary. The challenge is that, out of sight, they are often out of mind.
It's possible for them to feel isolated and without purpose. This can be depressing - especially for dynamic, accomplished individuals. They can lose their sense of self and forget how important they are.
YURU serves an important purpose of helping our parents and grandparents serve in their rightful role as matriarchs or patriarchs. We help them see how important they are.
They should feel revered and celebrated. YURU's role is to provide something tangible as a symbol for your entire family about how important they are.
DORIS
Doris is a big reason YURU exists. Doris is a beautiful, charming, cheerful, positive woman. Unfortunately, Doris has stage four Alzheimers. She cannot describe anything specific from her amazing life. All of her experiences, life lessons, values, interesting stories are lost! It's tragic.
Photographing Doris was a pleasure. Recording her video was equally pleasant and I'm happy that we were able to capture her personality and character. However, the video was missing the wisdom she had spent a lifetime building.

When I began photographing Doris, she seemed perfectly clear and charismatic.

Suddenly, I'd lose her. She'd lose her bearings and seem lost.

She was mostly cheerful and happy. She had an easy laugh and loved joking around.

During the session, she'd slip into profound silence and I could see glimpses of the amazing wisdom inside of her
